7. The Accommodation Environment
All Pathfinders homes are well-maintained, special attention is paid to furniture, soft furnishings and fittings. This is aimed at creating a warm and relaxed homely atmosphere where young people can feel comfortable and are happy to live in. All repairs and maintenance that might be necessary is carried out promptly.
Each young person has his/her own individual sleeping lockable bedroom. All bedrooms are furnished to a high standard and young people are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms and are supported to do so.
There are three homes and within these there are:
-
Nine bedrooms containing appropriate furniture
-
A homely lounge/dining room where children and staff can eat together – prepared from an adjacent kitchen.
-
Comfortable lounges where young people can share relaxed activities, TV, music board games and group discussions.
-
Garden area / BBQ area with tables and chairs
All homes are near to each other and are all very close to the busy town centre and transport hubs. All homes have locality risk assessments, and all homes are staffed 24 hours a day. All homes have CCTV in communal areas and at entry and exit points. Pathfinders policy for CCTV is in line with the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice (publishing.service.gov.uk)
The CCTV is not monitored specifically by any staff member, and all young people and the local authority have been consulted on the CCTV in use. CCTV is in use for the protection of young people and not for the surveillance of young people.
