Safer Recruitment

Pathfinders are committed to single central record keeping and is committed to employing staff safely whilst ensuring equal opportunities and employment processes are followed. All staff undergo a transparent interview process where all references are verified by the director and all staff are subject to enhanced disclosure and barring certification, thus creating a safe and positive environment, and making a commitment of keeping all young people safe from harm. Pathfinders has a separate policy on safer recruitment.
Staff Training and Development

Clear expectations are placed upon staff within the homes in relation to their commitment towards achieving high standards of practice and care for the young people we support. Pathfinders implement a comprehensive training and development plan for each staff member. To ensure we are achieving high standards of care for young people, all staff participate in an induction program when joining Pathfinders. All staff receive trauma- informed, attachment theory, child protection and safeguarding training, fire safety and first aid before starting direct support work with the young people. Each staff member has their own training plan, which monitors their continuing professional development and looks to further develop their knowledge and skills. Strong emphasis is placed upon regular reflective supervision and practice competency.
Managing Allegations - Staff to young person
Allegations in respect of staff employed at Pathfinders will result in Safeguarding procedures being followed, including refraining the staff member from whilst an investigation takes place. This is not apportioning blame, it is to protect both parties. A system of support will be put in place for staff who find themselves the subject of an allegation, which is kept separate from the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be reviewed by the director and appropriate action will be taken if required.
Managing Allegations - Young person to young person
If a young person makes an allegation against another young person. The service manager will inform Children’s services and follow its advice, as well as the police if the allegation involves a potential criminal offence. The service manager will put a risk assessment and support plan into place to safeguard all involved. A named person will be identified for each young person so that there is a support system in place.
Whistleblowing
Pathfinders has a specific whistleblowing policy, and this includes instructions for managers and staff in response to any allegation towards staff that may have a declared conflict of interest.
